Zeppelin Hill and Solo Hill
Kananaskis, Alberta
January 13, 2026
Distance: 9.5 km (5.9 mi)
Cumulative Elevation Gain: 230 m (755 ft)
After hiking the West Loop of Jumped Up Loops last year, I returned to complete the East Loop. Both loops share Kashmir trail and reach Zeppelin Hill, but the East Loop adds a second summit, Solo Hill. These are mountain bike trails, so expect to see easy grades and, of course, mountain bikes. However, I only saw a group of four bikers.
I parked on Highway 68 and started up Jumpingpound Loop Trail. A few minutes later, I reached a fork: Jumpingpound Loop left and Ten Years Gone right. I stayed on Jumpingpound Loop which runs low on the slope, parallel to the road. The trail keeps mostly in the trees but breaks provided views of Moose Mountain and Cox Hills.
At the next junction, I turned onto Kashmir and reached the ridgetop. In a clearing, Kashmir joins Trampled Under Foot and Ten Years Gone. There are log benches to relax on and take in the view, but having been here before, I didn’t stick around. I turned onto Ten Years Gone and crossed Zeppelin Hill. After the summit, the trail switchbacks down to a dell and re-enters the forest. The trail twists and undulates as it continues to Solo Hill. Probably delightful for bikers, but not so much for me.
Thin trees ring the summit of Solo Hill with views of low hills to the northeast. I took a few photos before continuing down, returning to the first junction I had reached earlier. Since leaving Zeppelin Hill, less than two hours had gone, much less than the Ten Years Gone that gives the trail its name.
