Bluerock Knob (via Bluerock Creek Trail)
Kananaskis, Alberta
September 27, 2026
Distance: 6.5 km (4.0 mi)
Cumulative Elevation Gain: 444 m (1457 ft)

Bluerock Knob is a pleasant hike that Dinah, Christine and I have done from Bluerock Campground, but there is a shorter route starting on Bluerock Creek Trail. This trail runs below Bluerock Knob Trail, but there is a trail that connects them.

There is no parking lot at the trailhead, but we found ample parking on the roadside. We went up the wood stairs and continued up the trail as it climbs above Bluerock Creek. We ignored side trails dropping down to the creek, and the first trail on our right to Bluerock Campground. But we took the next right turn to the upper trail. It eventually joins the lower Bluerock Creek Trail, but we didn’t go that far.

We could’ve continued to the connecting trail, but on an open slope, when the upper trail dropped down, we took a chance and went up a spur path. After climbing a short distance, the path disappeared, and we traversed left. After a few dozen metres, we found an animal trail that led to the connecting trail. Basically, we took a shortcut.

We followed the connector up the slope to where it intersects Bluerock Knob Trail, and we continued to the summit. We also explored the east ridge before going back down the trail. We retraced our steps to the connector and followed it to the upper trail and continued back to our car.

While Bluerock Creek Trail is a short approach, it can be used with Bluerock Knob Trail to make a loop. The loop is completed by walking through the campground.
